Candid Student Reports

The following reports were written by members of Shodor Scholars Program during the sixth day of the program. Some elements may have been removed/edited for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.

Matt

today i enjoyed learning about programing, and leaning how to use the application used in to create the programs, things that could have been imporved. the blinds could have been open, it was disappoint to see that they were once again closed. i'm still not entirely sure what i am going to do for my final project but i'm gonna try and come to some conclusions tonight.

Symone

Today was kind of boring, just because I'm not into computer programming. The NetLogo thing was pretty cool, to see all the different results as picture from the text programming. I dont know what to change really.

Sammy

Sorry that I didn't send in a report Friday. I was going to do it at home but I got distracted. I really have no idea yet of what I want my project to be, but biology, physics, and chemistry are all of interest to me. Learning to program in netlogo was pretty cool today, but I didn't enjoy perl very much.

Artem

i enjoyed making the netlogo program with the turtles. in the afternoon it could be a little hard keeping up with the filtering. it was also a little hard to concentrate because it was pretty repetitive.

Mike

More programming. Less break.

Molly

i really enjoyed programing. it was really fun. i think that we need more programing.

Nick

I liked the PROGRAMMING. I'm a future coding-monkey, you know. But refresh your mind a little before doing this next - the $ goes at the end of a regex, remember.

David and Morgan

We liked the NetLogo program and trying to get all the turtles to the highest point. When you are typing the program on screen, the font size needs to be a little bigger.

Kate

today we worked on programing. I liked it a lot in general, though my partner and I had trouble keeping up with the group, because it was hard to read the writing from the projector. I hope we do more programing, because it was very fun.

Francine

Today we used NetLogo, which I had some difficulty with. After lunch, we learned about Perl. i enjoyed the change in teachers, david did a good job. although i was sad that the blinds could not have been open. i still don;t have any idea what my report at the end of the week is going to be about but i hope to have some more ideas by tomarrow.

Amanda

Even though learning about perl was hard for me, I still enjoyed learning it. It was something very new to me. I enjoy learning something new. I will continue to study Perl and Java.
one thing that you can improve on is not to go at different speeds during the lesson. Sometimes you would wait for us to catch up and then sometimes you would go really fast. Be nice to the handicaped programmers!

Hniang

A better day with new lessons.I like the lessons but they r new 4 me that it's really hard to catch up. David is good at teaching but he went 2 fast and i didn't know what we r s'pose to do.At the same time, i realize that i can't be a programmer. It was great lessons and I enjoyed them

Vishal

I enjoy programming. I am grateful to have experienced Perl and netlogo. They gave me other options that I could use in my project. I did not find anything that needs improvement.

Nitin

1. Today was very interesting. We learned NetLogo and Perl. They were both useful and important to know for the future. 2. I didnt really like NetLogo because the code was weird 3. Vishal and I are working on the project together
