Candid Student Reports

The following reports were written by members of Shodor Scholars Program during the fifth day of the program. Some elements may have been removed/edited for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.

Molly

today was fun. i got to attempt to build a drug molecule. i also got to look at DNA and all that. i love biology. i think that i want to do my report on astrophysics. i really enjoyed today and learned alot.

Matt

today i liked doing work in the area of medicine because that is an area of interest for me. i might consider doing my project somewhere in the field for next week, although i am not sure of that as of now. i can't think if anything that needs to be improved on right now.

Kate

today we played with programs that design and test drugs. It was fun and hniang and I got very close to designing the drug. Today was fun.

Amanda

I enjoyed making medicine on the computer. This activity made me think hard!I might do a project on a diease and show other information about it.

David

I liked trying to make the right drug. The time can be a little shorter, though. I don't have many ideas for my project, but maybe something in chemistry or physics.

Artem

i enjoyed learning about medicine and genetics today. The program with the designing of the medicine seemed fun and I think it would be interesting to do something of that sort for the project.

Nick

I liked the atomic-level chemical stuff, and not having to make presentations, but I would have liked to go into more detail. For my project, I have no specific ideas but would like to do something in physics or low-level chemistry.

Symone

Today was more interesting because we talked about drugs. I had the idea of talking about how the emotional state can interfer with the drugs that you take. I haven't really looked that much into making a model out of it yet.

Alex

I liked playing around with drug molecules today. More challenges would still be nice but today was quite enjoyable. I would like to do something that has to do with programming for my main project, but that seems almost a given, so maybe a program that models some for of evolution.

Morgan

Today was far more interesting to me than the others days have been, mainly because today's topic of medicine is far more interesting to me than the other subjects have been. For my project next week, I would love to do something involving medicine and/or chemistry.

Hniang

I enjoyed today's lesson because I am interested in medical part.At the same time,Bob is really good at teaching.I have questions about advance training.I am interested in maths but so as medical. Do you have any advance training for maths? or advance training is just for programing and medication? Today is the best day and I enjoy with my partner Kate too. I have no idea about the project.Whatever it is I'll try my best.

Francine

Today I liked working with STELLA, and learning about medical drugs. For my final report I am considering doing something related to medicine.

Nitin

1.I liked the different activites we took part in today. I liked the Stella activity the best. My Pharmacy education improved 2.I think the explanations of the programs or the math was a little crude 3.I want to do my project in astrophysics, chemistry, or mathematics. Either programming or learning the science are both fun. I especially like the starrynights program.

Vishal

Today was great learning ways to get into the field of biology and medicine through computational sciences. Since I have interests in these areas, I might look forward to working in these fields for my project. I also have interests in programming, so I might add some concepts from both sciences and programming into my project. Chemistry and Medicine have appealed to me.

Luke

Working on the drug design was really quite enjoyable. The different projector made a huge difference. Astro things (stars, travel, etc.)
