Candid Student Reports The following (emails) were written by members of the Scientific Programming class during the eighth session of the program. Some elements may have been removed for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words. My group began project planning today. We are graphing x and y position of a charged particle in electric and magnetic fields. We need to develop algorithms to describe particle movement, however we do have a graphing system that will accept our algorithm outputs. Ben Today we started working on our computer modeling projects. We came up with a phenomenon to model with a computer model. My group is working on a model of the effects of constant electric and magnetic field on the motion of a charged particle. Daniel Today we started on our projects. After brainstorming for a while, we chose our different topics. We are doing a mall model with Jalena. We are going to come up with probabilities of different age groups and genders of coming to a mall. It was hard in the begining but we are making progress. We can't wait to get it done. Sophia and Fei Today we commenced work on our computer modeling projects. Our model models the effect of constant electric and magnetic fields on the motion of a charged particle. Samuel I am working very hard on my project of my choice. Me and my partner are writing a program on the Radioactive decay of the Carbon-14 atom. We are have just started the program and it is going well. Carla Today we began our projects. My partner and I chose to make a simulation of the different ways of gambling. Right now we are in the beginning stages but by the end of next week's class we should be nearly done. Conrad Today, we started our 3 week-long projects. Our project is about gambling and different "strategies." Albert Today, my partner and I developed the project we wanted to work on. We are going to simulate carbon decay. Today we figured out the equations we would need for the program and what our output would be (the amount of carbon left after a certain amount of years). We hope this project will be fun for us and the people who use it. Roshen
