These spreadsheets make use of Excel's protection feature. In order to use this feature you
must first protect the enitre worksheet (tools->protection) and then choose which cells you
wish to unprotect (select the cell you wish to unprotect, format->cells->protection tab and
uncheck the Lock checkbox). The protection feature allows you as the creator of the worksheet
to specify only the cells you want your users to manipulate. This can prevent students from
inadvertently changing formulas.
A
guess my rule exploration where users can only change one value in an input/output table. On a second
worksheet, users can create their own functions of particular forms by changing parameters
for a specific function family. This spreadsheet is also intended to be used with the
Interactivate Data Flyer activity (Java applet) and this
Lab Sheet (MS Word doc) as an instructional guide.
This
spreadsheet activity has students explore PBS' website on
Deep Time in order to learn about scale in terms of proportion.
