Candid Student Reports
The following reports were written by members of Math Explorations, Session A during the fifth day of the program. Some elements may have been removed/edited for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.
What I liked the most were the activities on the Shodor web site. I can't
think of anything I didn't like. This week we learned about patterns,
sequences, tessellations, celluar automata, and how to make different yet
similar equations.
Sebastian
Today I studied cellular automata. We played rabbits and wolves and watched
the population grow. Today was not bad at all. And today is my birthday.
David
This week we looked at patterns in numbers. I learned what a fractal was and
how to make one. I did not like the long lectures but I liked the hands on
stuff and the discussions.
David
This week has been great. We learned about patterns, tessellations,
histograms, and different techniques for solving problems. I liked the
activity that involved cellular automata. I didn't like the activities that
didn't involve the computer and hands-on activites.
Anu
Personally we liked this workshop. We were taught by a professional scientist
and were assisted by other scientists. This week went pretty well and we hope
to come again.
Joshua & Clayton
Over the week we learned about how to solve patterns, what problems can be
proved impossible with nodes, tessellations, and histograms. I liked being able
to do things that were on and of the computers. The only thing I didn't like
was that the camp was too short.
