Candid Student Reports The following reports were written by members of Modeling Your World, Session B during the first day of the program. Some elements may have been removed/edited for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.
I enjoyed it and learned a lot.
We Learned about how to graph and chart different information about epidemics. Pretty cool huh?
I liked doing the model a lot, and before this I had no clue what calculus was other than it is a higher math.
I enjoyed making the graph and the hands on activity we did outside. I understood everything and they made it really clear. I did not like the long talk we had before we started.
It was very fun and exciting except for the Stella® graph. The Stella® graph makes you think more then you wanted too.
I thought today was pretty good but what I didn't like was doing the graph because it was kind of boring just listening to the teacher all day.
I had a lot of fun today with the programming. We made a cool computer model of a flu epidemic at a boys boarding school early in 1978. We also did a physical model of how disease spreads. See ya!
Today we made physical and computational models in epidemiology. The physical model was made with Legos®, and we used them to represent how an epidimic is started. Then the computational model was a graph of how influenza had spread in a boys shool in Britian. We had a good time and we learned a lot. :)
One of the things Shodor teachers could do is explain the words we don't know more than once. Overall it was a good experience that has advanced my knowledge of computational science and the mathmatical world.
We learn about how germs can cause a lot of chaos, and how this better. I would like to go to different kinds of science labs for field trips so we can see and learn different things about science.
