Candid Student Reports The following reports were written by members of Modeling Your World, Session B during the fourth day of the program. Some elements may have been removed/edited for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.
Today we made a ramp so we could launch a car.
I liked it and think I like the computer modeling and everying to do with computers. I also like learning the big words. I am glad you got better computers (laptops).
Today was very interesting because we were learning how to do engineering and how to calculate the range of certain projectiles.
It was fun learning about parabolic motion of projectiles. We can't wait until tomorrow when we will learn to calculate initial velocity.
Today we learned how to be an engineer. We measured the steps of the building and then we launched cars off a ramp and recorded the data. Jenna HELPED US A LOT!!! We think she deserves a raise; same for Allyson. Don't change anything.
Today we worked on parabolic motion. We worked with race cars to figure our data out. We had fun.
I really liked launching Hot Wheels® cars from a ramp. We learned about parabolic motion and runs and rises. We did it in 3 teams, A B and C.
Today we learned about cars. We first got in groups, I was in Group C. The other group members were: Electra, Dominique, Jordan, and Adam. But Jenna helped us. All of us think that she deserves to be paid...she'll make a good teacher. We did worksheets, that had variables and stuff. I think we are going to finish this tommorrow.
Today we learned about Evil Kineivel, a 50s and 60s daredevil (I'm not sure I have the name spelled right). We did a physical model with some Hot Wheels® cars, ramps and boxes of sand. We measured stuff, and then let the car roll down the ramp from certain heights. I'm glad I chose this summer camp.
Today I had a whole lot of fun. We learned a lot of new words. We pretended to be engineers in training.
Today I became an engineer in training. We learned about velocity, projectiles and other sorts of stuff. We tested out cars and recorded the data. I think I had a real cool day today.
