Candid Student Reports

The following (emails) were written by members of the Math Explorations, Session A, 2000 during the second day of the program. Some elements may have been removed for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.

It was alot of fun and I learned alot about rotating and filing.

Merrill

Today was great. I learned plenty of "stuff" but I still don't get it. Sometimes it was hard to consentrate, but I still had fun. I learned a lot of "stuff" about symmetry and lot's of other "stuff".But other than that Mike was so cool. He made Math Explorations fun. He even taught how to juggle the wrong way. So watch out everybody.
B'anca and Estelle

Today, we had a guest speaker that was quite boring. He made us rotate and flip triangles for 2 hours. Overall, it was very informative, but if he did it over again, he needs to watch where he's juggling. At least before he breaks someone's foot or the lights.
Edren

Today I had a great time in Math Explorations. We studied the Koch Snowflake and abstract algebra. I really liked drawing the different snowflakes and I learned a lot.
Sophia

I understood everything today and it was very intresting.
Sarah

Today I learned about fratals. I learned how to draw fractals. We also talked about rotating triangles and how to put your answers in a chart. He show some of the rotations by juggling.
Tekoa

Today we worked on math. Today was very boring we had no fun except for our break. We spent most of the time playing with triangles for 2 hours. The only good time was watching the person who came in juggle.
Ben

Today in math class I learned abought Abstract Algebra. He taught us a table. We played with triangles to learn.
Ruth

Today in math explorations we learned about symmetric juggling.
Robert and Ryan

Today we studied Fractals and symmetry. First, we studied the pattern in the "Koch Snowflake", then we used our own design, which was basically the same using squares instead of triangles, and drew the first few steps. After our break we worked with the semmetry of triangles and made a table of the possible combinations of flips and rotations.
Mike and Greg

Today in Math Explorations we worked with lines of symmetry and fractals.
