Candid Student Reports

The following (emails) were written by members of the Math Explorations, Session A during the third day of the program. Some elements may have been removed for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.

We loved making graphs out of M&M's.
It was very fun.


Merrill and Kerry

Today we did a fun activity with tessallating 
figures and a not-quite as fun activity with M&M's.


Tallman and Ben

I had a great time in Math Explorations.  We 
made tessellations out of paper and on the 
computer.  It was fun.  Then we did an activity 
with M&M's (they were good) and we took the 
percentage of each color and compared results. 
It was fun.


Sophia

Today in math exploratiojns we did 
tessellations and an M&M project. We liked 
the M&M project very much. We did not like 
when we had to do the tessellations by hand.


Ryan and Robert

Today we studied Tessellations and probability.  
First, we looked at some examples of M.C. 
Esher's tessellations at a website.  We then 
made our own tessellations from rectangles of 
paper and copied them onto paper.  After our 
break, we each recieved a bag of M&Ms and 
counted the ammounts of the different colors 
and found their percentages.  We then compared 
the whole class's average results to Hershey's 
claimed percentages of coloring.


Mike and Christin

Today, During the math portion of camp, 
we started out doing a type of pattern 
with shapes which was cool. But the 
second part was the best of the camp 
so far. We made a graph of our percentages 
of M&M's. We even combined the 
whole classes scores and came up with 
913 pieces of candy. That was great. I
reccomend that you do more of these 
during the summer. 


Edren

Today we had fun working with M&M's and 
Tessallations.I wish we could do more 
stuff like that. We had fun playing on the computers.
But we should change the snacks. 
Beacause we always have cookies.


Ruth and Estelle

Today was fun in math.  We learned how to draw 
tessellations by hand and on the computer.  
Then we learned about data collection 
which is a collection of data.  We used M&M's 
to make a pie chart and a spreadsheet.


Tekoa
Today hasn't been as fun as yesterday so far. 
Yesterday I had fun but today we didn't do as fun 
of activities.


Greg

Today in Math we did Tessellations and it was Da Bomb!!!!!
Next we had break,the food and drink was great.
After that we collected M&M data ate them when we 
were'nt supposed to.
