System Model Information
Link to Final Version is HEREThe system model's story is a story that can affect female in the United States. The model represents two different outcomes for a female: whether she is able to have access to menstrual products, or not. There are many different ways the user can affect the outcome for both situations. The factors used for both outcomes can be changed, and affects whether the access to menstrual products go up or down. The factors that are included are: tampon tax, death, homelessness, unemployment, employment, and policy. A quick note that can be added about two of the factors is about the tampon tax and the policy factor. In case you didn't know, menstrual products are considered in 36 states to be a luxury for females to have and not a necessity, so there is a luxury tax imposed on tampons and pads. Policy and menstrual organizations help fight the tampon tax that was previously in all 50 states where the organizations fight to end the tampon tax as well as help disadvantaged populations have access to menstrual products. Another note about the death factor is females sometimes turn to dangerous alternatives for their menstrual products including rags, clothes, or even used tampons/pads. The usage of these alternatives causes infection and, for women who use tampons, they most likely develop toxic shock syndrome which could lead to a trip to the emergency room. Another risk women face is the risk of being diagnosed with cervical cancer. White females are proportionally advantaged than Black females to survive cervical cancer as the mortality rate for White females is 4% while the mortality rate for Black females is 10%. More information regarding the topics I discussed can be found on the "About" page.
