July 13, 1999During the second day the students were almost completly on their own with a project. The students received the task of finding a way to reduce the harmful ozone levels in Lamar, Colorado from .15ppm to the government regulation of .08 ppm. To make the scenario realistic, the students were limited to a budget of $1 million. To go about the challenge in a more efficient way, the students split into groups and attacked different parts of the problem. The students' main reasource in the problem was OZIP, an air quality modeling program. The program is web based and runs of the computer "storm" here at shodor. About three quarters of the way through the project however, Storm ceased to execute the OZIP program and the project was set aside for the day. |
