July 12, 1999

The first day of the 1999 TIP Tapper program began today with a bang. Bob Gotwals, or "Bob2", used his "stupid rope trick" to help get the students thinking about how they could observe things better. He asked the students to answer a question on the movement of the rope, when he got two different answers he asked what they could do to be sure one was correct.

Bob2 then explained the computational approach the students would be using for their problems throughout the program. The students then dove into their own project with the aid of Bob2. They were required to determine relations between the distance of two atoms from each other and the likelyness they will bond. This project sounds hard but was made easy with the aid of MacSpartan®.
