This Saturday morning, Bob2 started by showing the students a model of the atmosphere and its different levels. When they were done with that, they made models of the ozone level on Smog City (http://www.smogcity.com). The ozone level in the models was based on several different factors that students could manipulate according to what they wanted to find out. After they were done experimenting, they tried to find out if Durham had an inversion factor (when cold air and warm air switch places in the atmosphere, also one of the factors in the ozone level).

When the students were done taking a short break, they did a model based on emissions from factories and cars. They also used a special calculator on the computer that told them what concentration of ozone in ppm (parts per million) meant for each color of ozone level. They also learned that reducing emissions doesn't necessarily decrease the ozone level.
