June 13, 2005 Kent Robertson started the Medicine and the Biomedical Sciences Workshop b going over the week's agenda. This includes DNA sequencing; heredity and paternity testing; a Case study; and a model of the spread of disease (epidemiology). In the beginning of the workshop the students went over the history of DNA, different parts of this structure, as well as recessive and dominant genes. Later, they built a model of DNA using paper cut-outs of nucleotides, and learned how to build computer models of electrophoresis. Lastly, the students were asked to complete a reflection, which provided closing for the first day of the workshop. |
