Candid Student Reports

The following (emails) were written by members of the Math Explorations during the first session of the program. Some elements may have been removed for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.

Today we made tessellations. it was fun. Then
we did the maze game.

Kati and Leon

Today, Jon and Adam showed us what tessellations
are and directed us to make our own with a
partner. He then showed us a computer model
that helped the user to create tessellations.
They then showed us a program called the "Maze
game". It showed us how to navigate around "mines"
throughout a graph.
Finally, they then presented us with coordinates
that we had to mark on a graph and tell them what
it shapes into to. Bruce finished first.

Bruce and Andrew

We made up our own tessellations. Then we went on the
computer and played tessellation games.

is four. Four is four forever more!!!

I thought today's class was pretty good. There were some
bugs in the quadrilateral tessellation program and
positive maze #2, though. I don't like cutting and tracing
stuff, so I didn't really like the make-your-own-
tessellation.
My name is Andrew, Andrew is six, six is three,
three is five, five is four, and four is four forevermore.

Andrew

Today was fun i liked everything except the grid w/ the
smile face which was kinda boring it was bad. My favorite
helper was Adam because he let me move after the marker
fumes got to me, then i was a lot better. Anyway i had a lot
of fun thanks a lot,

Dan

Today I learned how to make tessellations and recognize number
patterns. I understood the tessellations perfectly, but I
didn't like making them with the paper. Also, the cookies
were good.
I am John. John is four, and four is four forever more.

John

Today I had fun and we did lots of mazes and I did a tess-
ellation and that's it.
