To see the VRML pages in this exploration, you will need a special plug-in. For a Mac, you will need to be running Netscape 3.01 (not 3.01 or higher, 3.01) with the WorldView plug-in installed.
There are three ways to use this page:
- If you're just learning symmetries, you can look through the point group, the molecule, and finally the symmetry elements, to learn what each point group can look like in practice in MacSpartan.
- If you want practice using the flowchart on the symmetry page, look at the molecule and the symmetry elements and try to guess the point group before you look it up. Note: the author of this page could be wrong! If you think so, email her a list of what molecule you think has the wrong point group and what you think it should be, and a very convincing explanation why.
- If you're confident and want to do the whole thing, go straight from the molecule to the flowchart to determine the point group, then check your results. Same caveat applies.
