Each model links to a page with three options: Play, Design, and Edit.

To open the model, press the 'Design' button. This will bring you to a page that has our model, a toolbar at the top, and a list of Agents To start the model press the green play button in the tool bar. To stop the model press the red stop botton next to the start button. To exit out of the model press the back button on your web browser.

Model 1: Dolphins, Fish, and Fishing Boats

In this model, dolphins, fish, and fisherman(fish boats) move randomly in the world - Ocean2.

The fish are represented by orange squares. The world is represented by light blue squares. The shoreline is represented by white squares. The dolphins are represented by red squares. The fisherman (fish boats) are represented by purple squares. The hunters are represented by pink squares.

Conclusion

In this model, the number of dolphins are significantly higher than the other models. Therefore, causing the fish to die faster, as the dolphin population overpowers them. The reason why the dolphin population overpowers the fish population is that the dolphins in this model don’t have a predator other than the fish boats who only capture dolphins 25% percent of the time. Hence, in this model the fish population decreases as there are more dolphins. But, later on in the model; the fish population dies and the dolphin population will starve to death, while the fish boats will decrease as there are no fishes left.

Model 2: Dolphins, Fish, Fishing Boats, and Hunters

In this model, dolphins, fish, fisherman (fish boats), and hunters move randomly in the world - Ocean2.

The fish are represented by orange squares. The world is represented by light blue squares. The shoreline is represented by white squares. The dolphins are represented by red squares. The fisherman (fish boats) are represented by purple squares. The hunter is represented by the pink square.

Conclusion

The dolphin population is less than the preceding model depiction of dolphins, also in this model a hunter is incorporated, thus, decreasing the dolphin population overall. As, the dolphin population decreased, the fish population was sustained a little bit longer, but over time, the fish population died, and the fish boats and hunters would eventually leave that area of the ocean.

Model 3: Dolphins, Fish, Fishing, Hunters, and Coral Reef

In this model, dolphins, fisherman (fish boats), and hunters move randomly in the world - Ocean2. In this model, the scent of the Ocean is 0, while the scent of the coral reef is 100. Therefore, the fish has a 25% to be attracted towards the coral reef.

The fish are represented by orange squares. The world is represented by light blue squares. The shoreline is represented by white squares. The dolphins are represented by red squares. The fisherman (fish boats) are represented by purple squares. The hunter is represented by the pink square. The counter is represented by the yellow square. The coral reef is represented by the green square.

Conclusion

The reason why this model is the most realistic one is because this model incorporates a coral reef. The coral reef attracts the fish towards it and gives it a shelter - habitat in a sense. Therefore, the fish population increases as it consolidates in one area, thereby increasing its chance of getting offsprings. Another thing is the dolphin population is lower than the other models, thereby getting less chance to make offsprings, and there is a hunter that predominantly hunts for dolphins, therefore making the dolphin population to die faster, and the fish population to exponentially increase, causing the fisherman and hunters to get a sufficient amount of fish. But, as the hunter hunts for dolphins, the hunter will leave the ocean, while the number of fisherman (fish boats) will increase drastically.
