I came in today because I missed the first session with all of the apprentices. I learned about the apprenticeship program, got a tour of the office, and got instructed about the different expecations and tools of the office. I got my picture taken as well so that I can be identified in the office locator. Since I have volunteered at shodor before, I already had a lab book to keep track of my assignments and help me plan my work.

Today, we started on our first project for Shodor, our webpages. These, we will be working on throughout our time as apprentices, and we will be able to post our projects and info on them. My website is the one you are on as you read this.

Today, we listened to two presentations. The first one was by Bob Panoff, and it was about how computers and humans are two completely different "calculation" models. Computers run on a binary system, and they come to a point where they start making mistakes. Humans do not have a point where they run out of room, or calculation accuracy. After lunch we listened to another presentation by Ron Broadnax about office ethics. This helped me understand the correct behavior at Shodor, and why certain types of behavior are important to maintain.

Today at Shodor, Jeff came in to help us understand the spread of a malaria virus, and we started to create one on Agentsheets. I have worked before with Agentsheets, and I enjoy working with it, so I had fun creating a new interesting model that correlated to real life.

Today at Shodor, we continued working with agent sheets to show an infectious virus. My group (me and 3 girls) worked on a representation of Cholera, that got transfered from coming in contact with water. People would then try to run to a certain place once they had the virus, so that they could be isolated. The model was a pretty good representation of real life, and I enjoyed creating it. After creating the model, we transfered the data onto an excel sheet. This let us view our data in a clean numerical fashion.

We worked more today with the excel spreadsheets, with Jeff teaching us. Luckily, we got to redownload the model from the website because many people's did not save correctly and the slider bars were deleted. I had not been completely caught up because my computer was malfunctioning the week before, so I was relieved that I didn't have to use my own saved project. We then moved on to representing our own diseases on the spreadsheet. I thought it was really cool how we could graph our data, and make our numbers change on a linear basis, then observe the resulting changes with the other numbers as well as the graph.

We started working on our cops and robbers model today. We didn't actually accomplish that much, but I see us doing more in the coming weeks with more focus and a better sense of what we would like to accomplish. We focused to much on the small details instead of keeping inside our final goals.

This week, we continued to work on our cops and robbers project. I wrote a lot of the code and designed the agentsheets program, and Sunjeev and Vatsil made the website aesthetics look nice as well as helping me with other aspects of the agentsheets program.

This week we were wrapping up our cops and robbers program. We put it on a website, which Sunjeev and Vatsil created with the assistance of twitter bootstrap and other great tools. We presented, which went well.

This week we learned about web administration, as well as learning how to build a computer by buying parts. This was very interesting since it was a different take on computers, the physical side.

This week we learned more about networking, which was really hard for me to grasp. I still do not fully understand base 10 and such, but I will research this and I strive to learn more about it. Rob also taught us more about probability.

We learned about javascript this week, which was quite interesting and intriguing, since I have never learned forms of programming other than basic HTML and CSS.

We did more on Javascript programming today, learning how to make a webpage through it eventually.

We learned more Javascript programming this week. It was cool because we created simulated dice with javascript code, which was an interesting application of the tools we had picked up.

Continuing with Javascript! Today we learned how to make a canvas with floating boxes. This was really cool and interesting aesthetically. We thought some about how we could apply this material to future projects as well.

We started our Javascript modeling projects today. I am working with Aidan Hennesy, which I enjoy because we both have different takes on how to accomplish things, so once we combine these, we become an efficient team.

I wasn't present today because of a baseball commitment, but I got in touch with my partner Aidan and worked some on our project.

This was our final day. We presented our projects. Aidan and my project executed quite well, and we enjoyed presenting it.

Today, we started our projects and sent in our HLD's (high level design documents). I got pretty far into my project, creating all the aesthetic parts as well as making some of the code in agent sheets!.

I finished my project today, giving it scent, and making all the right animals eat each other. Now I can just expirement and make cool things in the model with my free time.

Today was a less productive day then most, but I did still accomplish some. I started making the dead dear decay, making the model more realistic. This is essential because the model is reproducing a real life situation. I think that tomorrow I am going to try and make a scent so that animals can go in certain directions not just through random movements.

Today, I made my logo with gimp and completed 2 tutorials. I really enjoyed this because I enjoy photoediting programs and working with graphics. Hopefully in the next couple days we will be able to use this more. I am looking forward to creating a website layout using gimp as well.

Today I continued with editing photos of Ernie, but I also started working on my logo design. This was really fun because I love editing with gimp, but it was also pretty annoying because of all the intricacies you have to deal with while using gimp. An example of one of these is clicking on different layers when you are editing one of them. If you forget to do this, you will edit the wrong layer, and this can be detrimental if you don't realize it before you start making progress.

Today I finished up my logo designs, edited a photo of Ernie, and did the website scaling tutorial. The scaling tutorial was interesting, but I didn't understand some of the css, which I will hope to learn in the near future. Finishing my photo projects was fun however, and it was nice to feel accomplished about them.

I was finished with most of my work today, giving me the freedom to pursue some of my own projects. These including improving some old website designs, and doing some new gimp designs. Some of these are on my website, others are in my files since I'm not finished with them yet.

I finished everything that I needed to do to get my stipend for the first 2 weeks today. I put it all on my website, made sure my blogs were all updated, and did my reflections. I found this to be redundant since my blogs serve the same purpose as doing a reflection. Today was mildly boring though since I didn't really accomplish valuable work, I just made sure everything was up to date and on my website.

Today was my first day back at shodor. I had to document a forensics class in the morning, which was pretty interesting. I have never studied forensics, and it was cool seeing past the tv shows and general misconceptions of forensics. This occupied quite a bit of time, but once I was finished, I began my projects for the second block. They seem pretty hard, because I have never learned php before. Sunjeev helped me through the first mini project, which was a mad libs form.
-
Today, I continued working on my php projects! I enjoyed this, because I learned more about php and the way it works. I created a pretty cool background changer page that had nice css to make the style look good. I also had to do some editing on my documentation for Alexandra, since I had a coupe typos and such on the one I submitted yesterday.
-
Today we started learning about databases with Monte. This didn't interest me too much, but I did enjoy learning something new. The databases were quite complex, as with most applications and processes that run through terminal, and I had a little trouble understanding the whole layout. Despite this, I hope to learn more about databases in the future to better my knowledge of the internet and the basic infrastructure that lies under it.
-
I continued working on my PHP projects today. This wasn't too interesting, I just finished up my mad libs document and xml blog. These weren't to hard, but I got Ernie and Sunjeev to help me out with some of the problems I ran into.
-
Today I just finished all my php projects.
-
I came in late today because I had soccer tryouts. By the time I got here, I pretty much had reception for the rest of the day. I got to finish up my snap2 and make sure all my php projects were on line. When I had finished that, I just continued working on a side project I've been working on with some pretty sick looking css code.
-
Today I worked on my Snap 2 project. I got my home page functioning correctly and got my project configured on terminal. Now that I mildly understand the code, all I have to do is get my portfolio page, blog page, and my portfolio projects uploaded.
-
Today I finished 2 of my images for my snap2 website. This was interesting because I had not previously understood how to use snap2, but I gained a greater understanding of it while doing these images. At first I tried to do all the images from my content page, but this didn't work out because I didn't know how to load the content from my content folder, so I ended up doing it all in snap2.
-
I did more image today. At the end of the day I started trying to do some of the javascript projects. These were complicated, and I was not even able to complete one of them. I'll ask for help tomorrow with them, because I just kept on confusing myself while trying to complete it. I was trying to load all my content from snap2, and I might have to start using my content folder for the javascript projects.
-
I got Krista and Vatsal to help me with my javascript projects today. I completed the dice project and the canvas project. The dice one still does not always load for some reason, which is something I will have to fix in the coming block.

Today I did some picture editing to put on my website. I thought it would fun to edit Ernie on to Channing Tatum, which worked okay. I got one image to look mildly flawless, which I will upload to my website.

I worked more on snap2 today, continuing from my work yesterday. I started working on the fire model, which was pretty hard because there is an html, php, and javascript file all compiled together to create the forest fire. This will take more work in coming days in order for me to complete it.

I'm started working on my php projects today. I put them in my content folder, and using the load_once function, I loaded them onto the pagerender website.

Continued working on php projects.
