Akash Mullick

Hello, my name is Akash Mullick and I am an intern at Shodor. I am a freshman at Duke University. I first attended Shodor for the programming concepts workshop the summer before 8th grade. I loved it so much that I participated in the Shodor Scholars program later that summer. That was where I first met Dr. Panoff, president and executive director of Shodor, and learned about the Apprenticeship program. Over that summer, I also took an online course on JavaScript. Along with computational science, I love running and playing musical instruments. Until middle school, I did not like to run. I had always thought of running as a punishment, not as a sport. Once I started doing cross country, I realized I loved running, and have done cross country and track every year since then. I have been playing the piano since I was 8. In middle school, I was part of my school band where I played the clarinet for three years. Our band participated in the Chapel Hill holiday parade, so I worked hard to learn and memorize new pieces during the holidays. In high school, I am part of a jazz band which performs in all sorts of places, including the Carrboro music festival. I enjoy all of my classes at school, but my favorite class is latin. Learning a new language is fun, and everything is better with a great teacher.

I love animals, especially dogs. I have a Golden Retriever who loves playing with me. He always greets me when I come home from school, and asks me to play with him. I also love to travel, and so far I have travelled with my family to England, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Spain, Canada, India, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, and Jamaica. I have also visited several National Parks in the United States.

Feel free to check out my blog and portfolio to learn more about what I did as an apprentice at Shodor.
