TODAY WAS THE LAST DAY! I have learned a lot this year, and am looking forward to learning more. Today we presented our final presentations! This summer went by quickly, and I have learned a lot.
Today, I polished my website. I added a cupcake to my main page with the help of Shawn and Hamza. The 2 cupcake images now show up on each other, and not in two different places! It took a long time to center it, and make the 2 images show up in the same place. I added my encryption image and link, since it had vanished.
Today, I added custom fonts to my website! Now my portfolio, blog, and main page have nice fonts. I also added a input box for my dice roller, so the user can input how many dice they want to roll. I added css for my different php projects.
Today I worked on my web banner. I exported my logo, which is a penguin , and placed it on my banner. Exporting the banner was a little confusing, since export changes the file itself... Varsha and I helped Sahithi with her calendar. I also finished the Ernie photoshop project! I couldn't really think about what to do... so I just did what came to mind (you can see the final result here. I have completed everything, so now I will probably make the pictures links too.
Today I worked on the GIMP projects, thankfully I have finished the 4 images. I also created a new page for gimp and updated my portfolio. I started working on my web banner.
Today I worked on my Vensim model, I finished most of it. Sadly, vensim closed by itself and I had to redo some things. There are a graphs for different variables. In the afternoon, I documented and also saw the SSP final projects. Their models were really cool.
Today I worked on my agentcubes model, I fixed some bugs. It's a little difficult to see if things are working correctly since a lot of things are turning into other things. I also started the vensim model.
Today I worked on my agentcubes model for the week 1 project. I have most of the requirements working, except the storage unit part. It was quite complicated, since there are many agents requiring many counters. I also had to find a way to make the counter only build one storage unit, Varsha helped me, and now the model only makes the storage unit once.
Today I finished my inkscape projects! I also made my logo, a penguin with a donut! I fixed a few things on my HLD, the vensim model would be a little different (since there is no interaction happening). I got assigned my project that I have to complete for the Week 1 project.
Today we worked on Week 1 things. I worked on my HLD for Fashionista Phil. After that I did Inkscape projects. I'm kind of confused, when I was copying the leaf shape, it had this weird white outline that wouldn't go away. I'm not really loving inkscape, I hope Gimp is better... I still have to finish the other logos, hopefully I can do that soon. I'm looking forward finishing things for the last block!
I had documentation in the morning for SSP. It was really cool seeing what the students could make in a day. The models were quite complex for a days work. I tried helping one student with a Vensim issue. After lunch, presentations for people who were finishing up happened. After that, we watched the presentations for SSP students
I worked on my encryption in the morning. Albert helped me complete it. It was complicated, I had to create another table, but it was all good. After lunch, I explained the encryption and decryption to Anagha, since she was at Reception in the morning.
Anagha and I worked on the encryption database project. We were having a hard time making the encryption appear, Albert helped us a lot with the project. After lunch, Kristen came a talked about resumes and walked us through writing one. By the end of the day we wrote our basic resume and sent it to Ernie. I enjoyed learning about what to do and not to do on resumes, since it is an important part of jobs.
I worked on my library today. I had to look through many libraries, many did not work. I found a ripple effect canvas that I placed on my blog and portfolio. It was a bit complicated, since html pages can't be set as background image. I found an animation to put on my website, I manipulated it to my liking. Then I looked up other css things I could put on my website. I found the ripple effect, and actually worked! I changed the colors so it matched the theme of the website.
Today I worked on form validation for the database project. It works, so now if you input weird characters, it doesn't show up. It was a little confusing, but Ernie explained that you only need 6 lines of code from W3schools for it to work. After I finished that, I worked on the libraries. I really liked one library, but it had some missing parts. It was cool, since where ever you clicked things exploded. It took a long time for me to find one I actually liked. But, it turned out the method of setting that as a background was long.
Today we presented our Google project. I presented the triple venn diagram shape sorter. Then, we saw the workshop students presentation. It was cool seeing their programs, they had complex javascript projects. Some had graphs, reset, etc. It was also Dr. Panoff's birthday, so we had cake at lunch. It was pretty nice. I started week 1's work, the Inkspace part was a little confusing.... I took notes about Gimp and Inkscape in my notebook.
I worked on my new website for most of the day. I added a drop down menu for Shodor resources. It was kind of hard, since I looked up and tried to add the footer, but it was not coming in line with the other links at the top. Finally, I got it to work after some deleting and manipulating. Now, the dropdown options are invisible untill you hover over it. I added a footer for the main page. For the portfolio, there is now a picture and link of each project.
I worked my HLD for my new website. I wrote about the purpose, target audience, and added components for the website. Anagha and I looked up bootstrap templates for our old websites. Some websites had many many folders, so I didn't use them. I looked up a template that was simple and on W3schools there was a simple template with just one text document! It took me the whole day fixing and importing past things in the template. I'm very happy with my new website!
In the morning, I finished the Google teaching plan for both the applications. I chose triple venn diagram and pie chart. I made my notes Cornell style. The pie chart was easy, you could add sections and view the percentage/fraction. In the afternoon I finished almost all the calendar finally! Ernie had to walk me through the php, since I was having a hard time thinking it through. Now the calendar has 12 months, number of days, and it's in a chart!
I had documentation in the morning. The class was advanced programming, which was taught by Aaron. The students created their own projects with javascript, similar to what we did in the apprenticeship program. I worked on my database project, Anagha helped me a lot. There was an error, which Ernie helped me solve. He told me to walk around in the building to get my frustration out, it worked. By the end of the day the insert and dropdown menu worked!
Today we had the last day of engineering, we first learned about density. We went to a website and put different material with either the same density or same volume and saw if it sank. Then, we created a boat that held marbles. All the boats held the maximum amount of marbles. Caroline and my boat was tipping a little with the first couple marbles, but it held the maximum number of marbles possible. After lunch we worked on our projects.
In the morning we had engineering. We had to make a tower that is sturdy and holds the most marbles. Caroline and I didn't create the most sturdy structure, since our structure fell. We didn't have a very stable base, which caused it to collapse. After lunch we worked on the sql and php project.
I had documentation in the morning for programming. It was pretty cool since it was similar to what we did in the apprenticeship. In the afternoon, Keith explained svn, it was quite confusing. Then we worked on our projects.
We had engineering in the morning. We did a ramp experiment, sadly both of my partners, Mikayla and Adithi, weren't here. After the ramp experiment, we constructed circuits so LED lights lit up. It was kind of hard figuring out the circuit diagram. It was pretty cool seeing two LED bulbs flashing alternatively. After lunch, Ernie explained our MySQL project. It was kind of difficult at first, since I was documenting when Ernie explained MySQL and how to display it. Ernie helped me understand some of the code.
We had engineering in the morning, it was pretty cool. We got divided into groups, I was working with Mikayla and Adithi (but she was documenting in the morning). Mikayla and I had to get the marble into the target, and we did pretty well, our formulas were a little off. We used Shodor flyer to construct our equations. I had reception duty in the afternoon.
I fixed my Dane Joe php project with Caroline's help. Then we went to terminal and tried to make tables, but I had issues logging in. I later got in. We tried to the tables, but when inputting data we had many issues. We talked about Mysql, version control, and snap2. Then, I got to be a part of the jury for a trial, the kids showed evidence to back up their thoughts. After the trial, Adithi, Anagha, and I spoke to engineering students about are favorite parts of the apprenticeship program.
I worked on the php projects today. Anagha helped me with my projects. I finished up dynamic pages and background selector. I am working on the XML blog, there was a problem of the text not showing up, and showing the linking of the xml and php as an error. Caroline helped me, she said to put .php and it showed up. At lunch I had to go to the orthodontist. I came back and in the afternoon I had reception, meanwhile I worked on my php.
In the morning I had documentation for engineering. I wrote all my notes, but I have to write my documentation. In the afternoon, I got to work on my php projects. I worked on my calendar.
Today we worked more on the PHP projects we got yesterday. Today I finished the Dice project, Ernie helped us figure out how to start. He helped us create one array, and we created another array to represent another dice. Then we created a variable that holds the sum. I still need to work on the Calendar project, which is a little difficult. I also had documentation in the afternoon for forensics.
We learned about PHP basics in the morning, we got a worksheet to fill out that went along with the presentation. It was a little difficult when I got to the exercises. Then we learned about cookies from Vincent. The cookies were pretty cool, since they could store info. We tested cookies out and first we put our name, and when we reloaded the page, it said "welcome back (your name)". We received PHP projects, I finished the Hex Code project.
Aaron taught us more about parallel thinking. We reviewed some vocabulary and finished up the activities for our parallel computing notebook. Seeing the making of the Bluewaters was pretty cool. We also used virtualbox to see how parallel computing worked. It was a bit hard to comprehend, also I had a computer issues (so I had tried 3 computers in the process).
Aaron taught us about parallel thinking. There was a lot of vocab and it was a little hard to understand. We also started our parallel computing notebooks on Google drive which is pretty cool.
Today we are finishing up the models and presenting. I came in one day previously to finish up the model and add the final touches. I don't have much to do today, just getting ready to present. I don't have much css for the model webpage. I'm looking forward to the next unit. There were many presentations today.
I came in 2 days previously, and I can now see trees for the forest fire model! Today, I am working more on the code part. I have mostly finished the model, I might have to come in to turn the red trees to black. Also, I decreased the burn chance to 40, and decreased the time step, so you can see the change faster.
Today I worked on most of the HLD. It is quite confusing, but Ernie has been explaining some of it. The most difficult part for me was knowing what functions to have. Also the pseudo code was difficult, since I haven't seen much code before. I think I'm getting how to break it down.
Today we worked on our second group project. Before, we talked about a linkedIn article about how actions have consequences. My partner wasn't here, it was a little hard. I was stuck on my HLD, but Ernie helped a lot. He explained most of the functions and pseudo code.
Today we learned our last day of Javascript. We learned what objects are, and how to use them. It was a little confusing, but I think I got it at the end. We learned how to change html and css by the console, which was really cool. We changed the background colors and we drew rectangles using the console.
We learned about different types of loops, like the while and for loops, which was pretty cool. We aslo learned about nested loops. Arrays were pretty cool, since you can visually change things visually. We learned how to change, add, and replace things. We made our own array, which I really enjoyed.
This was our first class after a long time. We learned Javascript today, it was pretty cool. It was a little confusing, like the = sign stuff. But the if then statements were cool. We are going to learn more about JavaScript in this module.
Today was a very hectic and stressful day. We had to finish our projects, but there was a complication with Agentcubes, causing me to start ALL over again. It was very aggravating, and some people said it would not be able to be completed. With the help of an intern and her explanations, she helped us complete our project quickly and just like we wanted to. Then, presentations started, my group was first. It was cool to hear other peoples scenarios and models. The presentations ended at 3:30, and everyone was happy that their project was done and showed.
Today we were introduced to our first group project. It seems complicated, since we have to use 3 different ways to model a scenario. We have to use Excel, AgentCubes, and Vensim. I have the part of agentcubes. We made a simple scenario, but added more realistic things info in the process. We basically made up our stories, and a rough outline of our Vensim model.
We made more models on Agent Cubes Online. It was cool, since we also previously did an infection rate model, but this time it was very visually appealing. I like how we should think about the commands as a story. If the story makes sense, the model should work. The model we made could be very benifical for seeing how dieases/viruses spread.
Dr.Panoff showed us different models with a rope and straw. It is very cool all the things we can do with simple objects. Then he showed us how to make models with Vensim. There were parts of the model we had to understand like the arrows, boxes, and major arrows, it can get complicated sometimes. Also, seeing the graphs and changing the fraction rate was very cool. We added other factors (like death, immunity, getting better). I put a death rate, at first it wasn't working, but with help, it worked!
Today we learned about models, and how to create variables in Excel. We had to enable many things in Excel. It was pretty cool learning about all the things you can do with variables, like linear interpolation and linear change. The change can change the behavior. The types of changes (like linear and proportional) was a little confusing.
Ron talked to us about office ethics. It was funny, at the beginning he dressed up very non-professionally (plastic bag on his shoes, caution tape). He taught us how to enter people's rooms, being careful with technology, and other things. Joel taught us a little bit of command line. He also helped us with program installment. First my computer was not adding another folder (for the blog). After a couple of tries it added another folder.
Dr.Panoff talked about differences between scientific mathod words (like necessary, sufficent, evidence, proof). He gave us a difficult word problem. He gave us time to think about it, and then he showed us. He also showed us to use amny sources to solve/ answer problems. We worked on the assignment (webcite). It was a little hard, since I'm not a mac user.
Today was the first day of Shodor! We mainly went over the doom and gloom. We set up emails and passwords. We went over the apprentice handbook and where things are (like the bathrooms, the break room, ect.). We also recieved our first assignment
