The final session of the Math Exploration Club began with the explorers playing interactive probability-related computer games. The students were interested in doing this activity. "How do I get to the games?" asks Anne excitedly. After playing some of the games the explorers interviewed each other. They asked questions such as if the games were interesting or if they would recommend it to others. Some students filled out several interview sheets. Next, the explorers ventured into the wonderful world of integers and negative and positive numbers.

Maria explained to the explorers about how integers are written and explained to the explorers the use of absolute value in mathematical equations. The explorers were so interested in this topic that they devised a game. They placed labeled numbers from the top of the stairs to the bottom. Then they walked down the stairs to a certain destination. They then calculated the distance from their starting point to where they were standing. This led into a discussion of how integers are commonly used in mathematics.

After the explorers' break they gathered in the conference room and discussed some of the concepts learned in a previous class and applied them to what they were presently doing. "What is the diagonal of a square if a side is one?" was the question that the explorers tried to answer. Several students used different methods to solve this problem.

A process that one of the explorers, Christine, used was to cut the square along the diagonal and folded one of the sides in half. Next, she measured the half against the diagonal and she continued folding and measuring in this manor several times.

"Open-ended investigation problems start from anything. On the investigation of these problems, you come across other questions that you have to answer." [paraphrased from an explanation by Maria Droujkova.]
"It [open-ended investigation] never ends," said Christine. The final session of the math exploration club was a big success. Students were actively involved exploring many of the concepts taught and thoroughly enjoyed the science games.
