FacilitiesThe Shodor Education Foundation, Inc., has recently moved into expanded offices and research facilities in Durham, a few blocks from both Duke University and the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. We maintain a small internal research library of several thousand volumes and subscribe to a number of journals in applied mathematics, science education, technology, and learning. Computational facilities which will be available for use by SUCCEED participants include a high-performance SGI Power Indigo2 Extreme workstation, with the computing power of a single processor Cray, capable of performing in excess of 300 million floating point operations per second. In addition we support a large network of PowerMacintosh and Macintosh computers, along with an advanced Pentium-based system for DOS/Windows applications. Through cooperative agreements, we also have access to the supercomputing resources of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois, the North Carolina Supercomputing Center (NCSC), and the Center for Computational Statistics at George Mason University. Our internal office network is a 10BaseT Ethernet LAN, which in turn is connected to the Internet through a dedicated T1 link. For training, we are developing an expanded in-house training facility with seminar room space and a collaboratory of 10 to15 networked PowerMacintosh computers with appropriate multimedia peripherals. , and we have access to local computing labs in area schools.
