For some of the students who have just entered to the Summer Institute, Language Arts was the best class. Our teacher's name was Ms. Tate. She was a very interesting teacher and she was always easy to get along with. She always let us speak our minds and also gave us her opinion.
The kind of things we learned most of us already knew. We did activities where we not only learned the basic Language Arts stuff, but we got to know each other better and meet new people. One of the activities we played was Newspaper Tic Tac Toe. That game involves two teams, everybody with a newspaper, and your brain. Ms. Tate called out questions and we had to look through the newspaper to find the answers. When you find the answers you have to run up to the front of the room and grab a cup. When you get there you have to give the correct answer. When you give the correct answer you get a certain number of points and you get to fill in a space on the tic tac toe board. If you don't get the answer right( which some people don't) you are giving the other team chance to find the answer. *If you answered too many times you would have to get out of the game to give other people a chance to answer.
The other things we did were games to get to know each other. One game we played was Optimists and Pessimists. Ms. Tate went through the roll and you had to say which one you were. There were only about five optimists. The rest of the class was pessimist. We got to see what things we liked and what things we didn't like. Then we all broke into two more groups. One group was 13 and younger and the other was 14 and older. There were only 2 in the 13 and younger group. The people in the older group had a lot in common with each other. I think that game really helped open most people up.
I enjoyed Language Arts a lot because we got to do a lot of hands on things to learn the material we needed to know.
