October 4, 2014- FIRST DAY of the Shodor Apprenticeship! Yay!

Today I was introduced to many future plans of the Shodor Apprenticeship program, as well as many of the policies and work ethics. I'm looking forward to the rest of the program.

October 11, 2014- SECOND DAY!
-
Today was my first meeting with the short and dorky looking Dr. Panoff! I thought it was really cool how he memorized everyone's names so fast! He taught us about computational science and we did some brain teasers on the board and some sudoku problems as well!

October 18, 2014- THIRD DAY!
-
We started off the class with the discussion of the idea of modeling. It was really fun thinking of many things a piece of rope can model. Vincent and I thought of many things: such as clotheshanger, jellyfish and etc. After the big discussion, we made our first "DIFFUSION" model with excel. Although we studied a similar concept in SSP, I'm glad we reviewed the concept because it really refreshed my memory. I think making topographic maps using excel would be really cool! The second thing we did after lunch was making a linear model on excel. We used the sliders to alter the values of m and b and we also made a graph that represents the linear equation.

November 1, 2014- FOURTH DAY!
-
I learned a new thing today from Mobeen and Aaron: parallel computing and Linux! Some new words were Unix and Multics and we also learned many new commands including pwd, ls, cd, cd "x", mkdir, rmdir, and etc. I remember learning this in SSP but I thought it was a nice recap! We started out the class with trying out some commands in terminal and experimented with some new commands. We compared the actual outcome and our expected outcome of the command. Today we worked mostly on terminals and Unix Commands. I'm so excited about creating and customizing my own webpage! Fun!

November 8, 2014- FIFTH DAY!
-
Today we started a new concept - Visual Modeling. We created a visual model on Vensim and our model represented a relationship between 4 main variables: Infected, Susceptible, Immune, and Dead people. Also I had time to create my website: www.shodor.org/~schung/,but I still have a lot to add and work on. I'm excited to learn more in depth on agent-based modeling next week!

November 15, 2014- SIXTH DAY!
-
Today we finished up Vensim and started Agent sheet. Although today was just a review of what I already did in SSP, it was really fun because AgentSheet modeling is one of my favorite types of modeling. I'm excited for our group project! :)
