This is a disease population model we made along with Dr. Panoff when we were learning about Vensim. It simulates the change in a sick population and a healthy population over time.
We were assigned an Office Ethics Project by Ron Broadnax. The project consisted of a set of problems proposed within a business. We were instructed to write a response explaining what ethical actions should be taken to fix the problems.
We were assigned a group project to create a set of three different models each modeling a concept of our choice. I joined a group with my friends Brandon and Israfil. We decided to do our project on the fluctuation of gas prices. The project overview and downloads can be viewed below.
We were assigned a group project to create a forest fire model. The model consists of a forest, and a percent chance modifier. When clicked on, a fire spreads to nearby trees according to the selected percent chance.
We were assigned to download a file of undocumented JavaScript code, and to add comments to the code so that an unskilled programmer could understand what each line was doing.
This is a notebook that contains a record of my learning experiences during the Parallel Computing block at Shodor.
We were assigned a project to create a High Level Design Document for a model. After we created our High Level Design Documents we would swap with other people and create the model that we got.
We were instructed to watch a video on responsive web design and how to scale websites to mobile devices.
We were assigned a project by Ernie to learn about Gimp and Inkscape, and design our own logo.
The Shodor interns taught us the basics of the PHP programming language. We were then assigned 7 PHP projects. Each project would require us to do some research and then use a specific feature in PHP. By doing these projects, we were introduced to concepts such as POST/GET variables, sessions, cookies, and string manipulation.
We were assigned a project by Ernie to build a website that interacts with a database using PHP and MySQL. He gave us some examples like a website that allows you to type in song names and store them in a database. I chose to make something I call ShodorBook. ShodorBook is a website that allows you to write blog posts onto a wall where other people can view them. I had to learn a lot about account authentication and sessions in order to implement registration and logging in.
We were instructed to update our websites and make them responsive using either a web development framework such as bootstrap, or by using media queries. We also needed to create a High Level Design (HLD) Document before starting. I decided to keep my website CSS custom, and to add media queries for responsive resizing.
Kristen, a former Shodor staff member, now works with veterans to help them make resumes and get jobs after serving. She came into Shodor to help us make our own resumes.
