Today I started off learning how to access the Shodor site at home using Putty and WinSCP. After this, Ernie showed me around the building and gave me the orientation for the Apprenticeship program by going through the Apprentice Handbook. I received the forms and set up my account. After that, I began the work on this site by looking at the tutorials and messing around with some code.

11/3/2012

Today I learned how to create models in vensim and how the different variables and boxes effect each other in detail. Dr. Panoff explained in detail the process to creating a model and how the program works. This will help me with projecting things in real life on a smaller scale.

11/10/2012

Today I learned how to create models in AgentSheets and simulated a Bunny model. Although it isn't completely realistic, it is a lot more visually appealing in comparison to the VenSim models and were a lot of fun to mess around with in values and such.

11/17/2012

Today we started off finishing our predator prey models by adding descriptions and comments and creating a java applet out of it. Later we created another model in AgentSheets that simulated Forest Fires. We did a customer model and then expanded on it by adding realistic and other practical things to the forest fire model to make it a lot more realistic.

12/1/2012

Today we worked on our group projects. Victor and I used AgentSheets to model a Cops and Robbers and Bank scenario where we simulated basic cops and robbers interactions on a individual and global level. We started some VenSim but did not get very far, on the same scenario.

12/8/2012

Today we finished our group projects. Victor and I used AgentSheets and finished the model of Cops and Robbers. We managed to include the bank and use a global variable @transfer to connect all the money values. Towards the end of class I worked on my site and expanded upon my CSS and HTML abilities by learning how to link things and change the style.

12/15/2012

Today we finished our group projects and I finished my website. I finalized CSS and HTML and learned many new complicated things (in my opinion). Finally, we presented our group projects and expanded our view on everybody's presentations. We learned possible new variables and other ways to improve our project.

2/2/2013

Today we learned the basics of javascript. We learned operators, conditional statements, vairables, and data types. I added a javscript file to my site and edited javascript files that diagnosed patients.

2/9/2013

Today we learned javascript for day 2. I learned about objects, canvases, different types of loops and functions. We also looked at code and saw what lines did. We learned about canvases and making dots move across the screen.

2/16/2013

The class was given a group project where we had to make an infection model in Javascript. THere were two people, infected and healthy. They were represented by dots and they moved randomly on the screen and when they moved they passed each other it calculated their distance and if it was calculated less than 5, the box turned into a red dot, which represented the infected.

3/2/2013

Today we started parallel programming, but before that we learned the hardware setup of PCs. We learned about the motherboard, GPU, CPU, memory, and HDD. We also learned types of internets.

3/9/2013

Today we continued parallel programming and we learned how program a linux machine to be able to run a program on multiple computers. We also learned more about how a CPU work and threads in a CPU.

3/16/2013

Today was our final day of parallel programming. Today we learned a little C and how bigger CPUs does not mean faster CPUs.

4/6/2013

Today we began our second group project in javascript. We created a fire model and we used a canvas to create it. We learned lots of new commands and operators in Javascript to get it going.

4/13/2013

Today was our second day of the group project. I spent the day trying to learn burn rates and drawing the canvas correctly. We got the canvas working, but the burn rate will be workign next week.

4/20/2013

We finished our project today. It can be accessed through my portfolio, including a working burn rate that can be customized with a text field. THe burn rate is put through in decimal form and the fire will spread throughout the forest.

6/17/2013

Today we finished up the spring stuff. Afterwards, we started our HLD design. In the design, I created a plan of medicine that turns fish into zombies into an agent sheets simulation which will be created by a code monkey.

6/18/2013

Today we finished our HLD design and were criticized about the many flaws we had. However, they were fixed and we received our assignments today for the HLD that we will begin tomorrow.

6/19/2013

Today we started our HLD project as the code monkeys. I created the Louvre Disaster Model in Agentsheets. Most of the project is complete as directed by the software engineer, only a few more adjustments remain that will be completed tomorrow. Overall, good time is being made on the project.

6/20/2013

Today I continued on the projects that are due June 28th. I finished my modeling project an a graphic of my website which will also serve as my logo (visible at the top). A few adjustments were made to my CSS and HTML and I started work on GIMP and Ernie's pictures to something else.

6/21/2013

Today I worked to completely revamp my website. I added dropdown menus using CSS and a new theme layout. I also had to go back to my model and finish some things in the model and fix some bugs. Lastly, I tried to get Ristretto working but that didn't work, so that'll come up at a later date.

6/24/2013

Today I made my site more responsive. I coded a simpler mobile version of the site by sacrificing the navigation dropdown bar for mobile users. I also properly formatted my site and did a few bug fixes. Lastly, I began work on the Inkscape tutorials and finished them, but there was some error on saving and all the pictures went corrupt. I had to restart my images and so far they're working okay. To finish the day I completed a Taj Mahal edit in Gimp.

6/25/2013

Today I worked on finishing the image tutorials for GIMP and inkscape, which I did. I'm still not a fan of either. Later I did some finishing touches to my site's CSS and HTML and created a site graphic. Finally, I began learning PHP from a video tutorial series from the new boston. Out of 200 videos, I finished about 20. I am beginning to learn the basics of PHP and creating variables and text and stuff, and it seems much more interesting than HTML and CSS, maybe because it is more than just a markup language. I am looking forward to learning more, and maybe later converting my site to it.

6/26/2013

Today I continued my work on PHP. I followed the tutorial from The New Boston and was able to understand some basic PHP such as loops, operators, etc. Lastly, I did some very very final touches to my site, fixing some CSS issues.

6/27/2013

Today I finished all the projects I had to do today. Afterwards, I continued more PHP work. I managed to get a password .php thing working at this page. As today is the last day of the block, we also did some presentations and got many things finished.

6/28/2013

This week I started learning about PHP. I also did a lot of GIMP and Inkscape stuff and learned how to use it according to the tutorials on the shodor site. I learned lots of basic PHP and managed to set up a basic password entry site. I hope to learn more PHP and Javascript to be able to do more web based things and make my site much better.

7/8/2013

Today I began my project on PHP tutorials. My page can be found here. I used google's code prettifier to get the code in nice boxes with syntax highlighting. I managed to finish my PHP tutorial, I will add some touchups in the explanations tomorrow

7/9/2013

Today I continued to learn PHP through The New Boston tutorials. I polished my tutorial on if/else statements and put it on the server using the terminal. Afterwards, I looked up some date() functions and did some other things in PHP.

7/10/2013

Today I continued more PHP tutorials through The New Boston. I experimented with PHP at this page. I am getting more and more PHP tutorials completed and I am becoming better at PHP with functions, arrays, and other things

7/11/2013

Today I worked a lot on my PHP projects. I finished many of them and learned many interesting functions and stuff. I also observed many tutorials from other people that was put up in /newdev/phpTutorials, and learned a few things here and there.

7/12/2013

Today I learned a lot of PHP. I learned many interesting PHP functions and such. I used subversion to create a tutorial on if/else statements and learned from my peers' tutorials. I believe I have got a basic understanding of the functions and syntax and usage of PHP. I am hoping to learn more of PHP to be able to code an entire website that combines everything we've learned (a 2 week project).

7/15/2013

Today I finished my roll the dice project in PHP. Afterwards, I used bootstrap to help Vikram create the framework for the PHP tutorials page. I also converted my entire page to bootstrap CSS and revamped my entire page. I will be adding more and more things as I go to make it even fancier, including JQuery things.

7/16/2013

Today I finished my calendar project in PHP. It was around 500 lines but a lot of copying of loops. Afterwards, I started things in jQuery and began doing some nice animations, some of which can be found on my website right now. I have been learning jQuery through the jQuery manual, it is pretty easy to learn and I really enjoy making my site fancy.

7/17/2013

Today I finished my XML blog. I liked the usefulness of the XML blogs, but I find them pretty useless, as HTML is just easier for that stuff (although I probably don't know the extent to which XML can be used). Later I began adding jQuery things to my site, although I didn't get things working as I wanted.

7/18/2013

Today I continued learning more jQuery and functions in jQuery. I learned how to use some basic jQuery in combination with javascript to create a custom jQuery function in which the variables could be changed (with assistance from the internet). Currently, on my site there is a loading screen on the portal of the page.

7/19/2013

Today I continued my PHP projects and learned much more PHP. I learned about loops and other functions that are used commonly throughout PHP and that I could later implement into my website. After I finished my projects I was able to create a revamp of my current website utilizing bootstrap. I am hoping to make my website much different compared to the template, and I have begun that stuff using jQuery and such.

7/22/2013

Today Monty came in and started teaching us about databases. We began with learning how databases functions by drawing them on the whiteboards. We also completed a bank model. Towards the end, we began to mess with real databases using the command prompt and learning some basic MySQL commands.

7/23/2013

Today we began to learn about databases using terminal. All we did was select a database and set it up for tomorrow. Before that, we created outlines for the database using paper and pencil, which really helps with the visual aspect of how databases work. Drawing them visually let me see how everything was connected and really understand databases.

7/24/2013

Today we started using the terminal to answer questions in the databases. We learned about joining tables and many queries that are used in mySQL. Although it doesn't look very pretty in terminal, I still learned a decent amount about MySQL and how it works.

7/25/2013

Today we learned about MySQL and integrating it with PHP. Learning this will help me create more advanced things later on, such as bigger sites that utilize databases. Utilizing these will help me later on to create more intricate websites, including improving my own. I am also most proud of starting the database project from Monte.

7/26/2013

This week I learned all about MySQL and databases. This week we learned how databases look on paper with their attributes and entities and such. Drawing out databases on paper (and most likely on software designed for it) really helps with the design and production of creating a databases. Afterwards, we began to learn how to use MySQL commands in the Terminal.

7/29/2013

Today we learned how to use snap to and page render. We started by doing a lot of commands in SVN in terminal to get all the files necessary for pagerender. Afterwards, we began to create our first site using page render, which was accompanied with Krista and Eric's PageRender challenges.

7/30/2013

Today we did more page render, by completing the challenges given by Eric and Krista. I also managed to add my some of my website projects to the page render site, which run inside the webpage. I added a PHP project, javascript project, and a Ristretto'd Agent Sheets model.

7/31/2013

Today I got an image that I have to convert into a webpage using HTML/CSS. I started using things such as z-index to layer the images and divs and position them independently of each other. I got a lot of things working, but tomorrow I will GIMP the images that I need to and add them to my site.

8/1/2013

Today I finished the website project that I was given yesterday. It can be found in my portfolio. Later, I continued to learn more CSS and some tricks with jQuery. Lastly, I checked the project checklist for the presentation tomorrow and prepared some projects that I will present tomorrow as it is my last day.

8/2/2013

Today was the last day of the apprenticeship program for me. I finished one of my PHP projects and had a meeting with Ernie about the summer. Afterwards, I presented what I did during the apprenticeship and watched the SSP kids with their presentations. Finally, we made an awesome card for Horton.
