Dominant Recessive Sampling
Back to Excel Models
What does this Model Represent?
This model is a study of dominant and recessive traits in parents and how those traits are passed down to their children through their genes.
What are the elements of this Model?
- Mom and Dad - contain a randomly selected gene for the mom and a randomly selected gene for the dad (dominant or recessive)
- Kid - shows what trait their child would have as a result
- Recessive? - a record of whether or not the child is recessive: 0 = not recessive, 1 = recessive
- Count - The number of results that are being studied (taken in groups of 5, 50, 500, and 5000)
- Sum - The total number of recessive records within each sample
- Ratio - The percent of samples that were recessive
How do I use this Model?
Hit [Ctrl] [=] in order to get the next step of the model. Each time you want a new random sample, hit these keys. There is no input for this model.
What should I expect?
Notice how larger sample sizes (500 and 5000) result in a ratio that is closer to the expected probability. Notice that the results vary more between runs when a smaller sample size is used.
