Today was the first day of the Graphics and Visualization class. The first thing the class learned was the difference between vector and bitmap images. Vector images use lines and mathematics to produce an image. They are easy to zoom in and out of without messing up the picture. Bitmap images use pixels to create an image. If someone zooms in enough they can see individual pixels.

The class started with a bitmap based program called Gimp. They learned what each of the tools does. Then Heather explained layers and their advantages. They learned how to scale images, copy and paste with new layers, and change hues in an image. In one example they used blimps and created a sky in the background. They learned how to get rid of redeye.
