Mandelbrot and Julia Sets

Objective: The goal of this section is to show students how the Mandelbrot set and Julia sets are related. The terms prisoner and escapee continue to be emphasized in this section.

Materials: Each student will need

• Internet access to the Mandelbrot Set Activity

Explorations questions for students:

1. If you select the "Show Julia Set on click" button then click on a part of the Mandelbrot Set that is black, will the Julia Set be connected or fractal dust?


2. If you select the "Show Julia Set on click" button then click on a part of the Mandelbrot Set that is colored, will the Julia Set be connected or fractal dust?
