Two of the most famous fractals in history are discussed in this portion of the workshop. These fractals are a bit more complicated than the previous fractals that have been discussed in the workshop.
The first fractals in this section are Julia Sets. Although more complex in nature, these fractals still exhibit similar properties to previous fractals explored in the workshop.
Directly related to Julia Sets is the Mandelbrot Set. This fractal shows whether the Julia set with a particular constant is connected or fractal dust, terms that are introduced in this section.
An Excel Spreadsheet Example is used to demonstrate the mathematics behind the creation of these famous fractals. If the student understands the simplified example in the spreadsheet, they can move on to a full scale example presented in another activity.
