ASL | The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has found that cigarette smoking causes the most people to die early. Each year, more than 400,000 people in the United States die from smoking cigarettes. This means 20% of the deaths in the US are smoking related. |
ASL | This graph shows the number of people that are killed by different causes. |
ASL | Cigarettes cause a variety of diseases. This chart shows the number of smoking deaths for various diseases each year. |
ASL | These numbers help us understand the major impact of smoking on the health of millions of people in the United States. A second valuable question is, "How can we explore the impact of smoking on one person's life?" |
ASL | This lesson will look at the impact of cigarettes on a person's life in two ways. One, we will use a computer model to see how a person's life expectancy is changed by smoking. Two, we calculate the amount of money spent on cigarettes. |
