How to Run the Java Applications

For How to Run the Java Applications, Newer versions of Java such as version 8 are very compatible with older versions' models. This means that newer Java versions are able to run older Java applets without any issues. This newer version of Java can run on the latest version of Windows, which is Windows 10. There are downsides to using newer versions of Java, one being that the newest version of Java cannot be run on newer updated versions of Firefox, Chrome, or Safari. This limits your options to using either Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge or any other one. If you do use Internet Explorer, make sure you use an older version like version 11.

If you are having trouble with running/opening older Java applets, please follow these instructions:

  1. Legacy Java does not run on newer updates of Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, so you will need to download Internet Explorer version 11, or the newest Microsoft Edge will work
  2. Then you need to install Java. Version 8 will do just fine in order to run the applets
  3. Once Java has been installed, you need to open the Java Control Panel
  4. Once the control panel has been opened, click on the Securities tab
  5. Once on the security tab page, you will see a button called Edit Site List; click this button
  6. Paste the URL of the page with the Java applet you want to run into the exception site list
  7. Then, once you have added those URLs, restart the browser you wish to run it on
  8. When you run the applet, a pop-up will ask if you want to run Java on the website. Click run
