SUCCEED is a year-round program for North Carolina students to participate in authentic research and to collaborate with practicing scientists in the exciting field of computational science. The objective of the program is to prepare students to become leaders in 21st century science and education while the students create materials that will help fellow students understand topics in science and mathematics. This program enables 400 students to become part of a learning cycle in which the process of scientific exploration serves to enable computer-enhanced science and mathematics explorations for students around the world. SUCCEED accomplishes its goals through an integrated, three-phase program: Explorations in Science and Mathematics, offering after-school and informal summer science activities, Explorations in Computational Science in various disciplines, and interdisciplinary Research Apprenticeships. Students in all three activities work side-by-side with Foundation scientists, and with experienced students serving as teachers and mentors for younger participants.
