SCSI ADVANCED SESSION
JULY 16-22, 2000
TEAM MEMBERS
Jose D'Arruda
Department of Chemistry and Physics
Jose worked on furthering his models using Stella during the first week. The second week he honed those skills further, developing several models of coupled mechanical systems. He created a Stella model for two masses, each connected to a spring and a third spring of smaller spring constant, connecting the two masses together. This third spring represented the coupling constant. He also spent some time developing several interactive physics models, which he will use in his college physics classes. Some of the models he created in IP were the "Shoot the Monkey", two charges on two pendulums, which were coupled to each other thru their coulomb force of repulsion, and a model of a compound double pendulum, which exhibited chaos. He also spent some time running models on the Shodor web site, and he learned about several grant opportunities which he plans to pursue in order to bring modeling to UNCP and the many teachers and students in Robeson and surrounding counties.
