Center for Emerging Cardiovascular Technologies
The Center for Emerging Cardiovascular Technologies was created in 1987 at Duke University by the National Science Foundation. The CECT centers on its educational program which provides various internships and other programs for undergraduates. The Shodor Education Foundation, Inc. partners with CECT by hosting interns through the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Outreach Program. Jimmie Dixon, a 1996 intern and a junior at Gallaudet University, worked to create one of our newest MASTER Tools, Baroreceptor Modeling. The model simulates the ventricular pressure-volume relationships for the left and right heart, specifically the influence of baroreceptors and the autonomic nervous system (ANS) on blood pressure in the arterial system.
