The Liquid Phase
In the liquid phase, the intermolecular attractions are weaker than would be found between molecules of a solid. The molecules have considerable freedom of movement and a liquid will conform to the shape of a container. Chemical reactions are facilitated in liquids because molecules of substance are loosely bonded, and can slip over each other, but they are not easily seperate. The molecules cannot be separated enough to expand to fill and empty space. Report technical/Content problems here |
