Summer 2007 Workshops

Who may apply:
  • Applications are accepted from faculty teaching undergraduates in the physical, natural and mathematical sciences, as well as the more quantitative social sciences, math/science education, or engineering. Teams of Faculty from the same or near-by schools are especially encouraged.
  • Post-docs considering teaching at undergraduate institutions are encouraged to attend.
  • Applications from secondary math and science teachers will be accepted provided there are at least 12 undergraduate faculty participants and space is available.
  • Applicants will be registered on a first come, first served basis. If you decide to withdraw your application please notify us at ncsi-info@computationalscience.org so we can make your slot available to another person.
Registration and Notification of Acceptance:
  • Workshops will run as scheduled provided that at least 12 applications are received by the notification date. (Click here to see notification dates for the workshops.) Participants will be contacted within 5 days of the notification date on the status of the workshop and their acceptance.
  • Applicants will be added to the NCSI database of participants. This database is used to manage the assessment activities by the NCSI evaluation team, and to allow participants to update contact information, view their acceptance status, and apply for minigrants. No information will be shared with external parties. Persons who have attended a previous NCSI sponsored activity and are already in the database should follow the second link below to apply.
Participant Responsibilities and Benefits:
  • Participants must submit a $150 registration fee within 7 days of being notified of acceptance. Each accepted registrant will receive email with more details.

Persons cancelling their attendance after the cancellation date (21 days before the workshop) will not receive a refund of this fee. (Click here to review cancellation dates for the workhops.)

  • Participants must agree to assist in the NSF-required assessment of the workshops by filling out pre- and post-workshop surveys. Some participants may be contacted for additional information by the NCSI evaluation team.
  • Food and lodging will be provided during the workshop for faculty participants who live too far away to commute. Depending on the local arrangements, participants may need to pay for meals and then receive reimbursement.
  • Workshop sessions will run from Sunday evening at 7 through Saturday at noon, except for as noted. There will be evening sessions as well on the weekdays, except for Wednesday. Wednesday afternoon and evening is free time for participants to explore the local area.
  • All participants will receive workshop materials. At this time there is no funding available to offer mini-grants to participants.
  • NCSI funds can not be used for participant travel, so all funding for and arranging of travel to the workshop is the responsibility of the applicant.

Before clicking on the appropriate link below, make a note of which workshop you are going to register for; you will need to choose it from a pull-down menu on the application form. (Need to look again at the workshop descriptions? Click here.)
