On the second day of orientation, Bethany discussed the 'Caper Chart,' the list of intern duties detailing the odd jobs we need to do around the office to keep things clean and running smoothly. Afterwards we began our next team building exercise. We each paired up with an intern we did not know, and had to learn three interesting facts about them. The group came back together and everyone reported on what they had learned about their partner. This was done to show us that within the group each person has something unique to contribute. The next team building exercise was located off site on Duke's East Campus. We were all blindfolded then asked to grab each others' hands and form one straight line. The straight line took us a two to three tries before we figured out that communication was the key, especially since we could not see. We realized that lining up shoulder-to-shoulder would help us form a much straighter line than simply holding hands. Once we had successfully completed our straight line we were asked to complete more challenging shapes, like a circle and a triangle. Later that afternoon before working with our mentors we met with Joyce to discuss timesheets and paychecks. |
