So... can pfiesteria hurt us?

Pfiesteria is a predator with a powerful weapon with its special toxins. So it is always looking for food, anything that it can catch. Does that mean it will eat us?

The answer to that is no... but you could get sick from pfiesteria. Some fisherman, scientists, and even a water-skier have all been treated for rashes and bouts of forgetfulness after they were exposed to water with the microorganism in it. However, you should not be in any danger unless you go swimming in water where there are a lot of dead fish floating around (yuck!) or there are reports of weakened fish swimming around with sores on their body. There are many checkpoints set up on the Neuse River and in the Pamlico Sound which look for concentrations of pfesteria.

Good! I'm glad we aren't in serious danger!

So what does all this mean? for humans Back to the pfiesteria page
