Introduction

You have been directed to this page because you are using Internet Explorer 4.x or 5.x on a Macintosh computer. To guarantee compatibility with the activities on Shodor's site (in addition to compatibility with other Java programs), you may need to install some software.

Checking for MRJ 2.2.6 or Higher for Mac OS9

MRJ (Macintosh Runtime for Java) 2.2.6 allows you to run Java applications up to five times faster, is more reliable than previous MRJ's, and features complete JDK 1.1.8 compatibility. To determine which version of MRJ you are running, you can use the Get Info command in the Finder to look at the version information of the MRJLib file. This file is located in the "MRJ Libraries" folder, which is inside the "Extensions" folder inside your "System Folder." If the version is at least 2.2.6, everything is OK. If it is not (or if the file does not exist), you should install the latest version of MRJ, which can be downloaded from here and then continue onto the section below labeled "Set Up Internet Explorer."

MRJ for Mac OSX 10.x

We recommend if you are running any version of Mac OSX to install Java from Sun's Java website. Sun's site will detect which version of Java you need and direct you to the appropriate download. Download Java from this page on the Java site and click on the "Get It Now" button in the green box.

Set Up Internet Explorer

If you installed a new version of MRJ, restart your computer. Then, follow these steps to make sure that Internet Explorer is set up properly:

Version 4.x

Version 5.x
After taking these steps, your browser should work with all Shodor activities. If you have any questions, please use this form.
