Student Recognition And Special Opportunities

Internships

Students in the Computer Science, Chemistry-Based Materials or Physics-Based Materials tracks are eligible for internships at the Microelectronics Center of North Carolina (MCNC). Interns will be trained to use computer aided design (CAD) software to develop and test an integrated circuit design prototype. They will then be assigned part of a large project to complete themselves. Academic credit is available by registration in APPL 97. Summer internships in corporations such as PPG, Glaxo, DuPont, other universities, and by government sponsorship at national laboratories are available on a competitive basis to all qualifying students. Students from the Curriculum have earned one or more of these each of the last four summers.

Awards

The James H. Crawford, Jr., Award is presented annually at the to the most outstanding graduating senior in the Curriculum, as judged by an Advisory Committee of the Curriculum. This award consists of a cash prize and a plaque.

The Bayer Corporation Award is presented at commensement to an outstanding graduating senior in the Polymer Science track as judged by a faculty committee. The award consists of a cash prize and a plaque. The winner's name is also placed on a permanent plaque that is displayed outside the Curriculum office in Venable Hall.
