Light vs. Heavy Forces
For ideal orthodontic movement, you want light force for at least 6 hours per day for at least 2 days to move a tooth 1.5 mm per month.
Types of Movement
There are two (2) basis types of movements - rotation and translation. There is a third type of movement called tipping. Tipping is a combination of rotation and translation. Observe the movements:
Rotation
- Spinning
Translation
- Bodily movement
Tipping
- A complex motion that combines rotation and translation.
